3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Shift 2 of the Weekend Job passed off OK and left me with mixed feelings. On one hand the place is critically under-maintained and under-manned, making working conditions needlessly unpleasant. On the other hand there's never been a better junior-management team in my section.

Anyway, this job has taken up way too much of my thought. It can now retreat to the background as I am away from the place next week, and thoughts can turn to my "proper job" and stuff for Missus birthday next week. Today will be a good day to shut down the mind and gear it up for a more constructive and fulfilling set of tasks.

I have also rediscovered the Tao-te-Ching and deriving some calm and wisdom from it, enabling my consciousness to rise above my character easier.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are you focused on things that will actually take your life forward?

3. TODAY's SELF-OBSERVATION
Shift 1 of the Weekend Job went smoothly. The Weekend Job generally does go smoothly but I was kinda on edge after the previous "Saturday Incident". That was a week today, so I will still be somewhat wary on this shift.

Stepping outside of this character, I find the reactions of this brain fascinating. Is this hypersensitivity caused by nature or nurture? Probably a little of both, and in any case, knowing the physiology wouldn't solve the problem, only make it clearer. Both my children have the same trait, indicating a genetic cause, but with an important difference: Son has like myself learned to defuse situations by confession and apology where we are clearly at fault. Daughter instead is incapable of admitting fault and simply "goes nuclear" and gets vindictive - like her grandmother.

So if nothing can be done about the reactions themselves, there must firstly be self-acceptance then a coping strategy - these I have done, enough to cope with most situations, but there must also acceptance that I can be broken - a bad run or unfortunate combination of circumstances WOULD break me. There is nothing I can do about that, but accepting it as fact, coming to terms with one's own fragility brings inner peace. That helps my consciousness to rise out of my character and simply enjoy the movie.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are you at peace with yourself?

5. TODAY'S WEATHER IN BRADFORD
Dry and sunny throughout

Sunset at 21:32
Moon:

Weathertrack: A depression passing north of Scotland will bring strong winds and heavy showers in Scotland
Air Pressure: 1018 millibars and rising

6. TODAY'S ONELINER
Some jobs are like car boot sales... they look good from a distance, but you get there and realize its just rubbish you don't need :D

7. NOW THAT'S FUNNY!
QI - David Mitchell's angry logic

8. TRIVIA
Valentine’s Day was first introduced to Japan in 1936 and has become widely popular. However, because of a translation error made by a chocolate company, only women buy Valentine chocolates for their spouses, boyfriends, or friends. In fact, it is the only day of the year many single women will reveal their crush on a man by giving him chocolate. The men don’t return the favor until White Day, a type of “answer day” to Valentine’s Day, which is on March 14.

9. ZEN WISDOM
Courage and compassion are two sides of the same coin. Compassion without courage is not genuine. You may have a compassionate thought or impulse, but if you don’t do or say anything, it’s not real compassion.

3. TODAY IN MY LIFE
I return to the Weekend Job today with some reluctance after the "Saturday incident". Of course I deal with hundreds of people every shift without any problem, but it only takes one asshole to upset my applecart.

Usually with Weekend Job assholes, you only ever see them once - after that they avoid you or the whole place altogether. There was one who showed up twice but after I "bit back" on the second time, she also vanished. Another one showed up after a gap of a couple of years - oh yes I remember them! All the assholes and in fact everyone who has ever given me grief in my entire life are burned into my memory!

I see no point in denying this trait of bearing grudges for life, so long as I have an effective coping strategy (which partly includes venting on blogs!). This I have, but the ultimate answer is of course to raise the performance of my Practice so that I don't NEED the Weekend job at all. That I'm working on.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
How well do you know and understand yourself?

5. TODAY'S WEATHER IN BRADFORD

Sunset at 21:31
Moon:

Weathertrack: A weak cold front will cross Britain today bringing only patchy light rain
Air Pressure: 1013 millibars and rising slightly

6. TODAY'S ONELINER
I hate waiting in lines ... I wish this woman would hurry up and pick a suspect. :D

7. NOW THAT'S FUNNY!

8. TRIVIA
The second-most dangerous shark in the world, the tiger shark, is sometimes called the “garbage can of the sea” because it will eat anything, including animal carcasses, tin cans, car tires, and other garbage. One was even found having a chicken coop with the remains of bones and feathers inside its stomach.

9. ZEN WISDOM
Hope transforms pessimism into optimism. Hope is invincible. Hope changes everything. It changes winter into summer, darkness into dawn, descent into ascent, barrenness into creativity, agony into joy. Hope is the sun. It is light. It is passion. It is the fundamental force for life’s blossoming.

3. TODAY IN MY LIFE
Obviously, like my clients my character itself has issues, and they've all been there since childhood. Most mental issues cannot be cured, they are simply managed so they stop buggering up your life. Over a lifetime and almost entirely self-taught, I have learned to do this. My own issues consequently no longer hurt my nearest-and-dearest and I am ploughing on towards my goals, but every day I have to live with them in the back of my consciousness.

The one most prominent is to bear grudges for life. I refute utterly the suggestion that I am "holding on" to them - they "stick" to me! I would gladly, given the choice, forgive completely and move on - but the way this mind reacts is out of my conscious control! All I can do is have counter-strategies to prevent these reactions sabotaging my goals.

The most recent example is the "Saturday incident" at the Weekend Job where I was blatantly lied about. Though there were no external consequences, it took me a few days to remember my training and manage my thoughts and emotions. The wrath and resentment however will now be with me for life, permanently added to the dark half of my memory palace. I am not "choosing" this!

However, since I stopped being frightened, I have found the wrath generated by this issue a useful defensive tool. Those who attempt to bully or control me soon think better of it! Consequently, when I do have confrontations, it generally only happens once and the predator avoids me after that.

Though I'd rather not have a mind that reacts how it does, the strength and wisdom I have obtained in managing it has brought me a life that is generally blissful. For this I am profoundly grateful.

Air Pressure: 1026 millibars and falling

7. NOW THAT'S FUNNY!

8. TRIVIA
Wholemeal bread has 3-5 grams more fibre per sandwich than white bread

9. ZEN WISDOM
Life is filled with potential that is truly unfathomable. At last we are coming to see the enormous power it possesses. That is why we must never write anyone off. In particular, we mustn’t put boundaries on our own potential. In most cases, our so-called limitations are nothing more than our own decision to limit ourselves.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
There's a hush in my mind right now and it's most blissful! With the mental disruption of the Saturday Incident easing, balance is restored and I'm feeling that internal silence I have long sought. Were it not for loved ones counting on me, it might be a good day to die, at peace with self, but that wouldn't be so agreeable for the ones to whom I make a difference.

I will therefore carry on making a difference for the moment, out of love and service, even though I myself have nothing left to want. It's been a long traumatic time coming, but my mind is now how I want it, and I shall simply savour it.

9. ZEN WISDOM
Without dialogue, humans are fated to walk in the darkness of their own dogmatic self-righteousness. Dialogue is the lamp by which we dispel that darkness, lighting and making visible for each other our steps and the path ahead.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
My Practice is particularly busy right now! And I'm loving every minute! Offering rock-bottom fees seems to be in every sense paying off. And of course every client successfully helped is likely to recruit more. I have a very clear goal - to be the leading hypnotherapist in the North by 2020. I would settle however for my Practice to be financially self-supporting and to be rid of the Weekend Job.

On two occasions now at the Weekend Job I have been LIED about. Though there were no lasting external consequences in either case, it has strengthened my resolve to be in a position where I pick my own "customers". I have already on too many occasions in my life been the victim of other people's agendas. I no longer take such machinations lying down, but I want to be in a position where I don't have to deal with assholes at all.

Anger, if you can manage it, is I have found a highly useful force. I rather enjoy the power-rush it brings and seeing bullies back off from it - no one gives you grief lightly. New assholes, once bitten, are twice shy. Secondly, it gives you "oomph" - the drive to succeed in your goals. The stronger your hand, the less vulnerable you are.

However, all this wrath needs to be tempered with a certain humility. I don't forget that whilst you can become robust, you are never invincible or indispensable. Furthermore it's particularly important not to unleash your wrath on the innocent. Everyone needs friends and allies, and it's important to treat such folks with respect and gratitude.

In short, all aspects of your character, light and dark, can be utilized and united to achieve a constructive goal, the light to achieve it, the dark to defend it. My Dark Side is no longer my enemy, it's a useful ally serving my purpose.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are all aspects of yourself working together to achieve a goal?

5. TODAY'S WEATHER IN BRADFORD
Sunny start
Skies will cloud over during the morning but thin out from early afternoon
Possibility of an isolated shower throughout
A moderate to strong south-westerly will reach a peak in the later afternoon and early evening.
Max Temp = 13 degC at 1pm
Min Temp = 8 degC at 7am
Sunrise at 04:42
Sunset at 21:28
Moon:

Weathertrack: A depression in the Norwegian Sea will move away slowly to the east. The backwash of this depression containing weak weather fronts will cross Britain today
Air Pressure: 994 millibars and rising rapidly

6. TODAY'S ONELINER
What I lack in eloquence, I make up for in…you know...stuff...and...things... :D

7. NOW THAT'S FUNNY!

8. TRIVIA
The warriors of Attila, king of the Huns, (A.D. 450) preserved their meat by placing fresh meat under their saddles. All the bouncing squeezed fluids from the meat, and the horse’s sweat salted the meat and removed more moisture. When the warrior stopped to eat, they had a dried and salted meal.

9. ZEN WISDOM
The biggest obstacles to our progress exist within our own lives in the form of cowardice and the tendency to give up. Breaking through these barriers will unleash a surging wave of change.
