1. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

11th April 1689: The Coronation of William III and Mary II of England, Scotland and Ireland

In 1688, the unpopular catholic king James II had been usurped from the throne by an invading Dutch army under the Protestant Dutch prince William of Orange who had been invited to seize the throne by English members of Parliament. William's wife happened to be James' daughter Mary, but whilst James was a devout Catholic, she was firmly Protestant and her loyalty was to her husband.

The British parliament was keen to give legitimacy to the revolution, and did this by offering the crown to both William and Mary jointly and with equal status, a unique one-off arrangement never used before or since. This allowed the Stuart dynasty to continue and therefore rally the support of Protestant Scots. William, whose main concern was English support against the French, rather than absolute power for himself, was happy with this arrangement and so the two monarchs were jointly crowned on 10th April 1689.

Mary was a reluctant but capable ruler who wielded genuine power, particularly when William was away fighting in Europe. The Joint Monarchy worked well until her death in 1694, after which William ruled alone. The couple had no children, so after William's death in a riding accident in 1702, the crown passed to Mary's sister Anne.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Back to school for Missus today so it's back to the comforting structure of the usual routine. I finally found out the root cause of Missus' deterioration - a busy/stressful last week of term had been playing on her mind, particularly as she left a couple of minor jobs undone. Stress makes her illness worse, but there's nothing that could be done from my end other than make the home environment as loving and supportive as possible.

One good thing about it was to remind me how fragile her mental health is and put my full attention on my behaviour around her. This is the good thing about challenges in general - I think they're necessary to keep you mentally sharp. Without any threat at all, one becomes complacent and self-discipline crumbles.

As it is it's another blissful day of "just get on with it", my consciousness letting intuition run the show while I simply enjoy the movie. My consciousness is now beginning to rise right out of this avatar completely and as the universe to simply enjoy watching myself in action - there's so much to see!
