3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I was a little surprised yesterday by a client "out-of-the-blue", a nice problem to have although it disrupted my day. Nevertheless I dischrged all my hypnotherapy duties, which aside from blogging leaves me free to focus on physical domestic duties today.

Physical activity is an excellent opportunity for focus on the spiritual and higher levels of awareness, which I feel I need after getting somewhat unsettled and lost in the drama of the character I play. No matter how happy and settled domestic life is, monsters from the subconscious can spoil the party if you have no higher dimensions of awareness. Focus today will therefore be the very Zen practice of higher awareness through delight in the ordinary.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Though there has fortunately been no external impact, it's been a week of being emotionally unsettled, particularly on Saturday, with a general loss of discipline. My training tells me that this is a symptom of having my focus in the wrong place. Daughter Trauma has affected me much more deeply than I like to admit, running round my head like a hamster on a wheel.

With some space and time, I've concluded that I've got "lost in the drama" somewhat, an "occupational hazard" of playing an Earthly role. When your consciousness is spread over several levels at once, it's a question of trial-and-error getting the balance right. Consequently I will be shifting my consciousness upward into the spiritual to restore balance.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Have you got your mind in the right place?

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
The only way to deal with a strong hurt of a either physical or psychological nature is to focus on something else, and it must be said that I have struggled of late to get re-grounded, as the person who caused my most recent hurt cannot be simply cut off from my life while Missus lives. That option unavailable, I am left with the necessity for a strong alternative focus. With some meditative mental effort, I have found it in a fundametal principle I teach many of my clients - The Discipline of Purpose.

The Discipline of Purpose requires submission to the purpose of making a difference, to self, environment and others in ways immediately to hand. Once your mind "buys in" and "locks on" to this purpose, everything else fades to the blurred background, and deprived of your attention, ceases to affect you. Having found something that is effective for myself, I can pass it on with increased conviction to my clients.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
After a period of slack discipline, something like self-management has begun to return with a suitable meditation yesterday, and most importantly Grounding. So basic and fundamental is the Discipline of Grounding to my philosophy, so taken for granted that I have overlooked it! I have had to refocus on the most basic disciplines I teach my clients - claming the mind and grounding the focus on your chosen purpose.

A good occasional humbling experience is required to prevent arrogance possessing you, so humility is another discipline I have re-learned the importance of. I am emerging from my "wobble" stronger and fortunately with no harm done. I am under no illusions about what I'm capable of if uncontrolled, so self-management is a vital daily necessity. Having said that, the struggle has been itself necessary to equip me with the knowledge and wisdom to help others. An inbuilt determination to survive and clear goals has served me well and brought me to a blissful experience, one which I now understand needs conscious maintenance to keep hold of.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
So much for a return to discipline - slept only 5 hours, albeit solidly, and no meditation yesterday! I did however get some housework done. I am determined to make a fresh start of things today. Mental discipline, particularly meditation, is essential to my wellbeing - and everyone else's! As I tell my own clients, mind-management is like personal hygiene - a continual lifelong daily necessity.

I've been giving the most recent "Daughter trauma" too much of my mind of late, and it's time for therapist heal thyself. Again this is partly due to a lack of sleep and meditation, but I also know that the only effective treatment is to focus on something that works, of which there is plenty to go at.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Oh dear. I spent most of yesterday sat around tired and depressed. Lack of adequate sleep and meditation, and a few minor disappointments that wouldn't normally bother me, took their toll. It's all entirely my own fault, letting my mental maintenance regime slip. Lesson learned.

I got in an hours' meditation, just went with the depression and rested, pottering on the laptop, had a hearty supper, and most importantly, slept 8 hours. I used Reiki techniques to focus on wellbeing, and though I slept lightly, I went straight through except for a 2am wee, and my dreams were light and frothy.

I've lost 24 hours but I'm wiser for the experience and ready to go again.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I have been for some time firmly convinced of the beneficial nature of meditation, and that for me, meditation, and plenty of it, is absolutely crucial to my mental health. Unfortunately I occasionally need reminding! It's rather tempting to use the 1 - 2 hours it takes to get other stuff done. I have done this on a few occasions in the last week, including yesterday, and though my behaviour hasn't got so far as to be noticed by others, "wounded inner child" has been screaming in my head.

I had barely been asleep three hours last night when I was awoken by a highly disturbing, upsetting dream. There was nothing for it but to have a wee and go back to bed. Though I can't remember it, the subsequent dream must have been better.

Like a diabetic is always a diabetic, I am unfortunately a sociopath by default, and a rigorous regime is required to manage it, particularly meditation, which generates hormones that restore mental as well as physical balance, damps down the tendency to overthink and keeps focus sharp.

The happy circumstances I currently enjoy are due in large part to the mental regime I have constructed and pursued, and I have had to be reminded that what it took to get it, it takes to maintain it. I need adequate sleep and meditation in particular, and have, for now at least, learned my lesson.

3. TODAY'S SELF OBSERVATION
From my Christian era (1983 - 2009) I picked up the proverb "don't be so heavenly as to be of no earthly use" Having moved on to a nondualist philosophy, the same principle still applies. I am fully aware that what I call "me" is simply an assumed role I play, a mechanism by which the Universe contributes to the consciousness of itself. However if that's all I focused on, the universe would be giving up the opportunity to experience itself from this particular point.

I consider my life experience to be a useful and worthy addition to the consciousness of the Universe, so I am resolved to play it out to the finish. It now intersects with a reasonable number of other life experiences, and combined with the data trail it will leave behind, this makes it both worthwhile and fun to play.

When you watch a movie or play a video game, on one level, you know you are simply seeing light and hearing sound from a machine. However, to derive value from the experience, you immerse yourself in and participate in the illusion created. In the same way, I retain awareness of the energy field that everything truly is, but participate in the illusion created by my perception (maya) in order to maximise the benefit of the experience. Spreading my consciousness over both levels enables me to be enriched by the experience without becoming lost and therefore frightened by it.
