3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Down To Earth...
I always approach the family finances with some trepidation, but in the recent past, to my profound gratitude, the books have always balanced. June has been no exception, so we begin July owing nobody nothing! Furthermore, the Child Tax Credit has arrived in time to fund a month of music lessons for Sebastian, treat him to a new small telly for his room, renew my membership of the National Council for Hypnotherapy, "chemical marital assistance" and still leave us cash for a few small treats!

Spiritual
A consequence of my belief in the nonexistence of an individual self is that there is no true free will. The way I respond is simply an inevitable consequence of the laws of Physics. Neuroscience indicates that we make choices long before we are consciously aware of making them. Thus, when we think we're making choices, we're really not! This reduces our consciousness to the audience of a 3D surround sound virtual reality movie.

Currently, we do not have a theory that can predict everything, so though an outcome is always inevitable, we cannot predict what it is! This stops the movie getting dull, and I shall watch/feel it unfold with interest.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
One of the earliest nondualist principles I learned was to live on many levels at once. This means view the universe from many perspectives, ranging from the totality of the universe right down to the charater of Gary Blonder. All have their uses. As the universe, there is peace and wholeness. As Gary Blonder, a single point in time and space, there is appreciation of all the detail.

However, even as the character, once you have abandoned the concept of the self as a real thing, everything is viewed differently. You realize that everything you sense is a 3D map of what's there rather than what's actually there. In terms of what science can measure, there is simply energy vibrating and continually changing form - that much is fact. The "leap of faith" I have embraced is that even this energy field is not fundamental. My assertion is that the fundamental element of existence is consciousness.

If the self as an individual does not actually exist, and yet consciousness clearly exists, for you are aware, and when you look into matter and energy at the quantum level and see there is nothing there but "potential events", it is a perfectly rational and reasonable argument that consciousness itself is the only thing that's actually real.

So where does that leave the character of Gary Blonder? As a point from which the universal consciousness can experience itself, knowing what it is.

3. TODAY'S SELF OBSERVATION
Thursday evening is "satisfy missus" evening, which I did, just about, before the "probe of pleasure" died on me. This has prompted me to return to a chemical solution despite the painful financial cost. I hear that the patent for Viagra has recently expired, so hopefully cheap generic forms will soon appear. In the meantime I will return to the longer-lasting tadalafil.

I was hoping that incuding peanuts in my diet would solve the problem, and for some time I was convinced that it was doing so, but my virility seems to be undergoing a progressive decline and is now beyond natural solutions. Libido itself is reasonably buoyant, it's only the physical mechanism that's failing me. Oh well never mind. There are far worse afflictions, and least I can deal with mine by throwing money at it.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are there things about yourself you need to come to terms with?

5. TODAY'S WEATHER IN BRADFORD

Rain will clear by mid-afternoon, and it will be dry and cloudy thereafter.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
My ability to get stuff done was crippled by being rather sleepy yesterday - I had to have an early-evening nap and felt much better for it. I slept like a baby last night and could easily go back to sleep now! I'm not sure where this came from, but it's making me naturally sedated, pleasantly calm and relaxed. I will roll with it and have a prolonged meditation in the afternoon.

I feel like I am in posession of life's greatest prize - peace of mind. There is no inner conflict at all! Life has been noticably simpler and easier since I started taking my "orders" from my intuition rather than my thoughts. Whereas thoughts are random, and it takes time to figure out which to follow, your intuition is decisive and direct. My thoughts are observed rather than internally discussed, debated and responded to.

A consequence of this has been that there is a lot less of them. For increasingly long periods, my mind is utterly silent. Within that silence, there is a wonderful truly blissful experience of being - it's something that's there all the time inside everyone but few ever feel because of all the internal noise. It is the ultimate feeling, in which there is nothing remaing to want.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
What do you think would bring you peace of mind?

There is no scientific agreement what the purpose of sleep is, but there is now universal acceptance that it is essential. Deprivation causes a large number illnesses and bodily malfunctions and ultimately death.
