3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
After a wonderfully self-absorbed day on Wednesday, buggering about on an enjoyably pointless video project, with an evening of quality time with missus, I went to bed at a reasonable hour and have awoken with a peace of mind that has been absent recently.
Happiness is considerably influenced by those around you. Son had an enjoyable evening with a group of girls, one of whom he has his eye on. Missus and I took advantage of his absence to indulge in marital activities, and a quality evening with Missus followed. With everyone getting what they wanted out of the day, it's no suprise to have woken in a good mood.
One of the most liberating changes in mindset I have experienced in my life is to have abandoned worrying about the future and to live in the moment. I have desires and intentions for the future, but rather than trying to figure out how to engineer it, I simply live in the moment with that intention, taking opportunities to bring it nearer as they arise. This shift of focus to the moment and restricting my social circle to the loving and appreciative has virtually eliminated stress from my life.
Having made the decision to sever contact with Daughter, though leaving the door ajar for her to walk in on my terms, the hurt has considerably eased. The physical act of letting go seems to have enabled the mental act to occur. I was generally reminded of the important psychological roles that ritual and symbolism play, and whilst of no consequence in themselves, they are very important to the mind.
