On the Russian Front... Fierce fighting continues in Stalingrad, particularly at Orlovka Gully.

In the Black Sea... Soviet patrol vessel Shtorm bombards Anapa. German vessel Salzburg sunk by Soviet submarine M-118, but the submarine is then detected and sunk by Romanian gunboat Ghigulescu.

In Berlin... Hitler gives a speech at a conference of all the Reichsleiters and Gauleiters (provincial leaders), and has a private meeting with General Erwin Rommel.

Over Germany... The RAF attacks Wismar, Flensburg and Lubeck

Over Greece... US MEAF bombers attack Pylos Bay

In the Atlantic... British vessel Empire Tennyson sunk by U-175 and Dutch vessel Achilles sunk by U-202. Convoy HX 210 departs New York City for Liverpool.

In the Aleutian Islands... US 11th Air Force aircraft attack Kiska Island and US fighters claim four victories.

In the Pacific... In the East China sea, Japanese vessel Lisbon Maru with 800 troops and 1800 POWs aboard istorpedoed by American submarine Grouper. Off Japan, Yomei Maru sunk by USN submarine Kingfish,  and Tosei Maru sunk by USN submarine Nautilus.

In Papua New Guinea... General Herring arrives Port Moresby to take command of the New Guinea Force. Australian 25th Infantry Brigade advances down the Kokoda Track from Nauro toward Menari.

In Chungking, China... Wendell Willkie arrives as personal representative of Roosevelt for consultations with Chiang Kai-Shek.

In the Indian Ocean... Panamanian vessel Camila sunk by Japanese submarine

New month new start! Time to put some renewed vigour into all areas. I begin from a reasonably good base and many reasons to have the attitude of gratitude. The family are happy but we all need in our separate ways need to get busy! For me, as I sail the ocean of uncertainty, its especially important to keep my focus in the right place. This means:
1. A continual background attitude of gratitude
2. Total focus on my objective - self-suppoting therapist by 2020.
3. Appropriate response in the moment as matters arise.
4. Self-maintenance by meditation, excercise, and new learning.
