On the Russian Front... Heavy fighting continues at Stalingrad, particularly at the Barrikady factory, Tractor factory, and Red October factory. The Soviet 64th Army unsuccessfully counterattacks on the southern flank of
Stalingrad. Outside Leningrad, remnants of the Soviet 2nd Shock Army destroyed on the Volkhov.
In the Black Sea... Soviet destroyers Boiki and Soobrazitelny bombard Yalta overnight.
In Berlin... Hitler meets the Bulgarian ambassador.
Over Germany... RAF Bomber Command sends 188 aircraft to attack Krefeld overnight.
Over France... US 8th Air Force attacks Meaulte with 30 bombers.
In the English Channel... British vessel Lord Stonehaven sunk by German
S-boats.
From Liverpool... Convoy ON 135 departs for New York City.
In the Bay of Biscay... German blockade runner Belgrano is damaged by RAF Coastal
Command aircraft and steers for Spain.
In the Mediterranean... Axis convoy with two vessels departs Tobruk for
Piraeus, but Italian vessel Rondine damaged by Allied aircraft and returns to
Tobruk. Italian warships lay minefields off western Sicily and Cape Bon.
In the Atlantic... British cruiser HMS Curacoa sunk in an accidental collision with the liner Queen Mary. U-512 sunk by USAAF B-18 bomber off French Guiana. US vessel Aloca Transport sunk by U-201. Panamanian vessel Aneroid sunk by
U-175.
In Washington DC... Stabilization of the Cost of Living Act gives Roosevelt power to control wages,
salaries, and agricultural prices.
In the Aleutian Islands... US 11th Air Force bombers attack Kiska Island again. The Japanese retaliate by attacking Adak Island.
In Papua New Guinea... The Australian 25th Infantry Brigade advances down the Kokoda Track from Menari toward
Efogi.
In the Pacific... US 5th Air Force aircraft attack Rabaul on New Britain, damaging Japanese cruiser Tenryu. Japanese vessel Lisbon Maru, torpedoed by USN submarine Grouper on 1 October,
sinks. 1800 Allied POWs sealed in the holds go down with the ship.

With no pressing commitments today, it's up to me to maximise the abundance of time. Alongside the online stuff I intend to look after mind with meditation, body with exercise (a walk and T'ai Chi) and spirit with Reiki. I am pleased that I have refocused myself and have a very clear idea about what I'm doing.
