1. THIS DAY IN WORLD WAR 2 (30th OCTOBER 1942)
On the Russian Front... At Stalingrad, the German 6th Army has been worn down by attrition and is depleted, exhausted and has no access to reinforcements or reserves. The army's commander General Paulus therefore halts attacks in order to rest and regroup the troops. Meanwhile, the Soviet Stalingrad Front and Southwest Front continue preparations for
a major counter-offensive.
In Egypt... The Australian 9th Infantry Division attacking in the coastal sector
In the Mediterranean... U-559 is crippled by RN destroyers, and a boarding party captures codebooks and material
subsequently used to crack the new Triton code. The U-boat is sunk.
In the Atlantic... In another bleak day for Allied shipping, 7 freighters are sunk by U-boats. However, U-520 and U-658 are sunk by Canadian aircraft.
In the Aleutian Islands... A Japanese force lands on Attu Island
In the Pacific... On Guadalcanal, the depleted Japanese force withdraws from the American Lunga perimeter, while the Japanese own positions at Point Cruz are bombarded by a USN task force.
In Papua New Guinea... Australian battalions reach Alola and Isurava on the Kokoda Track.
Today's Air Raids...
Schwebo airfield, Burma by RAF aircraft.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Our "mini-honeymoon" ends today when Son returns. It has been a great success in that missus has enjoyed it immensely and I rather enjoy being adored. However my male ego was popped overnight when missus who was having a sexy dream needed "relief". She was duly relieved, but I could only pretend to finish what I started.
I have not returned to being 16 after all! No point getting depressed over it. It was pleasurable enough and I was able to "perform", but I need to be at the peak of my powers in order to finish off. That means the right time of day with a completely empty bladder and wide awake, with about half an hour to beforehand to "warm up". Oh well! This is a common issue for guys my age, and acceptance of "how it is" is a fundamental life-principle of mine.
The really important thing is that in all departments I make a difference, and that my nearest and dearest feel loved. By these criteria I am a success! Life is a temporary experience and it is up to every individual to decide their purpose. My own purpose is clear: to make a positive difference, in thought, word and deed.
4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
What is the purpose of your life? Are you deciding that yourself, or taking the word of others?

8. TRIVIA
In the Peanuts cartoons, Lucy and Linus, who are regular brother and sister characters, have a rarely-seen brother called Rerun. When he does appear, it's usually as a left-fielder in Charlie Brown's baseball team.
