On the Russian Front... Heavy fighting continues at Stalingrad.
In the Black Sea... Soviet submarines lay mines off Feodosia, Yalta, and Akhtopol.

In Berlin... In a speech regarding the Allied naval blockade, Deputy Fuhrer Goering announces: "The German people come before other peoples for food."

From Belfast... Troop convoy WS-23 departs for Suez and Bombay.

In the Atlantic Ocean... US vessel Caribstar is sunk by U-175. British vessel Athelbrae is sunk by mine.

In the Pacific... US vessel Camden torpedoed by IJN submarine I-25 off Oregon, abandoned, and subsequently sinks. Japanese vessel Setsuyo Maru sunk by USN submarine Greenling off Honshu.

In Papua New Guinea... Australian 25th Infantry Brigade reaches Efogi on the Kokoda Track.
