1. THIS DAY IN WW2 (12th October1942)
In the Pacific... The naval battle of Cape Esperance concludes. The Japanese Guadalcanal supply convoy, its mission complete, turns to assist rear Admaril Goto's battered force, but is swooped upon by aircraft from Henderson Field and two destroyers are sunk. The combined Japanese force withdraws. Though an American victory, there is no significant change of situation - neither side has secured Guadalcanal or the surrounding waters. However, there is a sizeable uplift in American morale.

In the Arctic... RAF No. 455 Squadron aircraft transferred to Soviets at Vaenga on the Kola Inlet.

In the Mediterranean... Italian vessel Amsterdam, en route to Libya, damaged by Allied aircraft and beached.

In the Atlantic... U-597 sunk by a RN Coastal Command Liberator bomber.US vessel Steel Scientist sunk by U-514. British vessel Stornest sunk by U-706.

In Papua New Guinea... The Australian 25th Infantry Brigade attacks the Japanese rearguard around Myola and Templeton's Crossing on the Kokoda Track.

Today's Air Raids...
Wismar, Germany, by RAF Bomber Command
Tobruk, Libya, by US MEAF bombers
Buna on the Kokoda Track, by US 5th Air Force aircraft

2. TODAY IN MY LIFE
Ironing and hopefully a meditation before missus quality time, probably comedy night on TV. With Son departing for a weekend in the Dales, horny missus will be wanting to "take advantage". Consequently I am on "man pills" every day until Sunday. This has a side-effect on my digestion and sleep patterns - was up at 04:20 this morning. Oh well never mind.

3. TODAY’S SELF-OBSERVATION
The "busy end" of the week, (Thurs - Sun) seems to roll around all too quickly these days! Never mind, my mind is in a good place: grateful, focused, prepared and balanced, but I need to get body back into some kind of reasonable shape. You may have noticed that in stark contrast to the confidentiality I give my clients, I am rather open about my own life. I guess it's cheap therapy for the therapist, keeping my own mind healthy.

4. TODAY’S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are you clear in your own mind about what you're doing and why?

5. TODAY’S WEATHER IN BRADFORD
Dry all day but a cloudy start and a possibility of drizzle around mid-morning

Bright and sunny in the afternoon.
Dry and clear in the evening and overnight.
Wind will be consistently strong, veering south-westerly and easing overnight.
Max Temp: 10 degC
Min Temp 7 degC
Sunrise 07:30
Sunset 18:16
Jetstream: Over Ireland and southerly

6. TODAY’S ONELINER
It takes a lot to keepe a woman happy, but not much to make her mad! : D

7. THE BEST OF MOCK THE WEEK
Things You Wouldn't Hear At The Winter Olympics

8. TRIVIA
Clogs (wooden shoes) were invented in the Netherlands. With marshy and frequently flooded land, people wanted a shoe that kept their feet dry while working outside. The shoes were called "klompen" and were cut from one single piece of wood. Today the klompen are the favorite souvenir for people who visit the Netherlands.

9. THE WISDOM I’VE LEARNED FROM OTHERS
"Every day you have the opportunity to learn and experience some-thing and some-one new. Seize the opportunity. Learn and experience everything you can, and use it to change the world."
— RODNEY WILLIAMS
