1. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY

8th October 1957
JERRY LEE LEWIS RECORDS "GREAT BALLS OF FIRE" IN THE SUN STUDIO, MEMPHIS, TENNESSEE
This is one of the best known and famous rock n roll songs. Written by Otis Blackwell and Jack Hammer, it was not released until November 11, became a transatlantic #1 hit and sold one million copies in the first ten days of release, then went on to sell five million.

The title is a southern-American exclamation similar to "Jesus Christ!" and is therefore considered blasphemous to devout Christians - it refers to Pentecost, when tongues of fire settled on the heads of the apostles. Lewis grew up in a religious household and was conflicted over whether or not he should record the song. He and Sun Records owner Sam Phillips argued as Phillips tried to convince him to sing it. Tape was rolling during the spat and the exchange can be heard on some Sun Records collections.

It's appearance in the rock n roll film "Jamboree", released one day later, went a long way in promoting the song.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
When there are no Thursday clients, Thursday is the day of abundant time, and the onus is on me to spend it wisely! There have been many pleasant distractions of late, and I don't regret any of them, but it's important to frequently refocus and review your objectives and your performance.

I remain convinced that it's best to spend your life pursuing something that both makes a difference and for which you have a passion doing, and that is linked to what you're good at. Having had a lifetime to think about it, I'm clear what my strengths are - my strongest ability is teaching, and I have am interest in the mind and the nature of consciousness - hypnotherapy ticks all these boxes, AND makes a difference.

However I'm pondering diversification and if so into what areas. I have been pondering writing some dark/Gothic poetry, so may have a go and see if it "flows" and gets a reaction.

8. TRIVIA
Divorced people are three times as likely to commit suicide as people who are married. Moreover, children of divorce are at a higher risk for committing suicide when they grow up. Divorced and separated men are two and a half times more likely to commit suicide than married men. Divorce, however, doesn’t seem to lead more women to commit suicide.

9. ZEN WISDOM
Everything depends on what is in our hearts. If we decide to ourselves that something is impossible, then, consistent with our minds in thinking so, even something that is possible for us will become impossible. On the other hand, if we have the confidence that we can definitely do something, then we are already one step closer to achieving it in reality.
