1. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY
6th October 1973
THE START OF THE YOM KIPPUR WAR
Egypt and Syria simultaneously attacked Israel during the Jewish holiday of Yom Kippur, taking the Israelis by surprise. For the first few days, the war went well for the two Arab armies. By October 8 however, Israeli reservists had arrived at the front lines in significant numbers, and prioritizing the Golan Heights, and launched a counter-attack that immediately began sending the Syrians into retreat. After another two days the Israelis had completely recaptured the Golan Heights and decided to push on into Syria itself.
On the Sinai front, Egyptian advances had also been halted by October 9, and the front stabilized while the Israelis prioritized Syria. On October 14 the Egyptians launched a new attack but were beaten back with heavy losses and the Israelis launched a counter-strike, and by the next day had themselves crossed the Suez canal.
After intensive diplomatic activity, a ceasefire was arranged on October 23, and finally in effect on October 25, but sporadic fighting continued until January 18 the following year.
This was the last major attack by Arab countries on Israel. It became clear that neither side could impose its will militarily on the other. This led in 1978 to the Camp David Accords, in which Egypt became the first Arab country to recognize Israel and sign a peace agreement, in return for the return of the Sinai peninsula. No such agreement was reached with Syria, and Israel unilaterally annexed the Golan Heights in 1981.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
It's hard enough to have a daughter who has turned out to be so deluded, vindictive and narcissistic - a profound disappointment in itself, but I'm never allowed to heal as Daughter can get to me through Missus. Missus has a very good excuse of course - she is clinically psychotic. To get angry at her is only to kick a puppy for messing on your carpet.
There is no point at me raging against things I cannot change. I can only change my responses within my borders. Missus just needs constant reminders, not just in regards to Daughter but in just about everything - this I have to accept as a carer. She needs to be reminded how to eat properly so she doesn't choke on her food, how to clean her teeth so she doesn't gag, that you can't stuff your face AND lose weight, and when horny to move to the centre of the bed so we don't fall off. I just need to keep reminding her that I do not want to know anything about what Daughter says and does.
I have found the Reiki discipline of looking inward to get to the causes of distress highly useful. In this case, it's resentment - the resentment of having to explain and RE-explain things that to me are obvious. Well, bottom line is I do. I need to stop struggling and accept this, not just with Missus but to some extent with everyone else too. My meditations will subsequently be focused on this acceptance.

7. NOW THAT'S FUNNY!
Josefa “Chipita” Rodriguez (1799-1863) was the first and only woman ever legally hung in Texas. She was executed on a Friday the 13th at the age of 63, and her ghost is said to haunt the place where she died. Her last words were “No soy culpable” (I am not guilty)
9. ZEN WISDON
It is natural for human beings to look forward. Our eyes naturally look ahead. In this sense, we are made for moving toward a goal.
