3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
With Son's final rejection coming through yesterday, we can draw a line under the painful Conservatoire experience. We will still be paying for it for at least a year but I have no regrets - we did our best for our Son with the knowledge we had at the time.

Myself and Son are in similar positions in that we we've got nowhere with our ventures this year and need to make a fresh start with some new initiatives. One thing is clear - we won't give up - ever!! We will pursue our passions and do what we do best.

I have been painfully reminded this week that I can be broken easily by the wrong circumstances. My main strategy is to simply avoid the people and circumstances that upset me. Where I can't, to be as prepared as possible. I have certainly learned a lot from the defeats of this year and will carry that learning into 2014.

This character is still fun to play, but by this time next year I want to playing entirely from the universal rather than ego perspective, so regular grounding and meditation is as important as ever.

8. TRIVIA
The eruption of the volcano Tambora in Indonesia in 1815 was the greatest volcanic eruption ever  observed by humans and killed over 70,000 people. The effects were felt as far as Europe and North America, including prolonged inclement weather which resulted in food riots and the worst famine in the nineteenth century.

9. ZEN WISDOM
Failure is an instrumental part of every success. Whether our life has been a triumph or tragedy can only be judged at its very end.
