Italian forces begin evacuating to the mainland 
British 8th Army captures Centuripe

In the Mediterranean...
Italian submarine Argento is sunk by USN destroyer Buck 
Italian vessel Citta di Catania is sunk by RN submarine HMS Unruffled 
US vessel Yankee Arrow heavily damaged by mine and subsequently written off after reaching Bizerte
Italian manned torpedoes enter Gibraltar harbour to attack Allied shipping overnight  

In the Atlantic...
U-572 and U-706 are sunk by Allied aircraft

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
"Holiday-At-Home" reaches a climax today with my having an entire morning to myself while Missus is having hair done then seeing Daughter, and Son is in a "holiday mode" sleep pattern and won't emerge until the afternoon. I intend to use the opportunity in a highly self-indulgent way! It feels like today is the highest pinnacle of bliss. Even all the bad things that have happened to me have effectively conspired to lead me to this point. I have found what everyone is searching for - peace of mind.

I have learned that peace of mind is found only in the current moment. I have abandoned utterly the pursuit of security, which I believe does not exist, and embraced fully the reality of uncertainty, simply responding to whatever situation manifests in the present. I feel most priviledged indeed to have been liberated from the stressful ignorance of the majority, and found happiness in abundance.
