3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
There is a benefit from having an overreacting kind of mind, which is that you are forced to understand it and closely observe it in order to control it, and I find my own mind fascinating! My unhealthy impulses and inclinations are essentially redundant survival mechanisms that are no longer useful.

Once you accept the idea that the self is simply a concept created by you, you develop the ability to raise your focus above that self and observe it. From this lofty vantage point, there is no threat, so you don't get lost in your own fears. Of course, it isn't as simple as that. External stimuli can drag you right back down into the mode of a cornered animal.

However, as your self-awareness develops, you become increasingly less likely to walk into situations that cause primal behaviours to take over, and your environment begins to change as you do. Primal behaviour does have its place, and is a useful defensive weapon where there is genuine threat. The skill is in knowing when and where to let it off the leash.

After a lifetime of struggle, I have created a home environment that is benign, positive and healthy, purged of threats, and beyond it I have a healthy balance of fierce self-defence towards predators and benevolent difference-making to the receptive. Of course I am not invincible - I can be broken and destroyed like anyone else. If that is my fate, there is little my character can do about it, but as far as I am able, I will continue to make a difference my way.

8. TRIVIA
Women often feel loved when talking face to face with their partner; men, on the other hand, often feel emotionally close when they work, play, or talk side by side.

9. ZEN WISDOM
True love must be transformative; a process that amplifies our capacity to cherish not just one person but all people. It can make us stronger, lift us higher and deepen us as individuals. Only to the extent that we polish ourselves now can we hope to develop wonderful bonds of the heart in the future.
