1. THIS DAY IN WORLD WAR 2 (30th October 1943)
In Moscow...

The Moscow Conference with Allied foreign ministers Molotov, Eden, and Hull concludes with the Moscow Declaration:
1. The setting up of the United Nations organization
2. All Fascist elements were to removed from the government of Italy
3. Austria was to be restored as a free and independent nation
4. German war criminals were to be tried in the nations they had committed them, and for non-local war crimes by joint-Allied courts.

This conference is often regarded as the "high-point" in relations between the Allies.

On the Russian Front...
Soviet 4th Ukrainian Front isolates the German 17th Army in the Crimea

In Albania...
German forces launch a successful offensive against partisans south of Tirana

In the Mediterranean...
U-73 sunk by RN submarine HMS Ultimatum

In the Pacific...
US Marines raid Choiseul Island, with strong air support

In China...
Japan and Wang Ching-Wei's puppet Nanking government sign a treaty of alliance.

Today's Air Raids...

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Two minor events had a disproportionate effect on yesterday: the gas engineer reported that he could gain no access to our house and the loss of my Tumblr accounts, a year's worth of work.

In the first incident, I have little doubt that the engineer blatantly lied to make his schedule easier - there was no advance phone-call (we usually get one) and no calling card - a complaint was duly made! Let's see if one turns up today!

The second is my own fault, mixing business blogs with hobby blogs on the same account and breaking Tumblr's rules (inadvertantly) on the hobby pages, causing me to lose the lot.

Though the life-impact of these events is minor, they served to ruin my day, and caused me to sulk in my Consulting Room all evening. Fortunately, the communication between myself and Missus means that she was very understanding, for which I was most grateful. By 10pm I had finally gone into acceptance mode and went to bed early, ready to start rebuilding the online stuff but to give Missus priority.

Learning to respond appropriately to adversity is an essential part of personal development. Not having useful parental role-models, is something I'm having to learn later in life. However I'm pleased with the speed of my recovery and that I didn't hurt the ones I love.

8. TRIVIA
Heart Disease is a much greater killer in developed countries than Cancer, killing ten times more people than all the different types of Cancer combined.

9. ZEN WISDOM
It is much more valuable to look for the strengths in others—you gain nothing by criticizing people’s imperfections.
