3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Friday was a downer due mainly to a rare fall-out with Son. Flaring up in the morning it bugged me all day and before bedtime it flared up again. My training teaches me that when you lose, don't lose the lesson, which is mainly about responding to things that upset you.

In both Psychology and Reiki spirituality, there is an emphasis on inner reflection and looking for the root cause of your dark emotions. I agree with this, but it doesn't help you cope with the response that cause has generated. In other words, just because I know why things upset me doesn't stop them upsetting me.

When I am upset, I have found no better remedy than time and space, in which I can re-ground myself. This is usually enough to restore balance. Most folks, friend or foe, having upset me once, avoid doing so again. A notable exception to this was Daughter, who has never been able to see things from others viewpoints, kept lashing out, which led to the death of our relationship.

In solitude, I can detach my consciousness from the character and observe. When upset, I am genuinely physically sore all over, in exactly the same way as a severe virus makes me feel. And just with a virus, solitude, calm and rest in conjunction with good focus, heals me.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Do you have a positive response strategy for when you are upset?

8. TRIVIA
The three main actors in Rebel Without a Cause (1955) all met an untimely death. James Dean died in a car crash, Natalie Wood drowned, and Sal Mineo was stabbed to death.

9. ZEN WISDOM
Indifference and acquiescence in the face of the negative, destructive functions of life is, ultimately, to side with the forces of destruction.
