One of this character's mental weaknesses is to rude/aggressive criticism - it tends to go into endless circles in my mind and I bear grudges for life. It has taken many years to even begin learning how to "let go" of such incidents.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
My current strategy is to pass the matter from intellect to intuition, which I visualize as a Buddhist Lama. This at least prevents mental paralysis, but it still takes several days after an encounter to regain balance.
I'm philosophical about this state of affairs - I didn't choose to have this sort of response installed! I can only manage it to the best of my knowledge and ability, and accept that I can be broken and my weaknesses exploited. I can make myself more robust but not invincible, and if something overwhelms my defences, it was caused by destiny and not my own arrogance. I have found that this acceptance of vulnerability paradoxically brings peace of mind.

The Boxer Rebellion between 1898 and 1901 in northern China was against Christian missionaries, foreign diplomats, and technology by a secret group called the “Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists” (Yihequanor I-ho-ch’uan) so named because its members practiced weaponless martial arts as well as secret rituals. Westerners called it “shadow boxing” and the members “Boxers.”
