1. THIS DAY IN WORLD WAR 2 (30th July
1945)
In the Pacific...
USN heavy cruiser Indianapolis is sunk by IJN submarine I-58, with approximately 300 men are killed immediately. Due to a poor system, Navy HQ does not realize the ship has been sunk, leaving 880 men in the ocean - of these only 317 will survive
The Indianapolis sent distress calls before sinking. Three stations received the signals; however, none acted upon the call. One commander was drunk, another had ordered his men not to disturb him and a third thought it was a Japanese trap.

Numboga, New Guinea...
Remnants of Japanese 18th Army make a final stand

Tokyo...
Due to food shortages, the government orders civilians to collect acorns to supplement the daily ration

Hamamatsu, Japan...
USN Task Unit 34.8.1 with three battleships, four heavy cruisers, and ten destroyers plus RN battleship and three RN destroyers bombards Hamamatsu

Off Japan...
Japanese vessel Yuzan Maru is sunk by USN submarine Sennet off Hokkaido
IJN destroyer Hatsushimo and vessel Shokei Maru are sunk by mines

Off Korea...
Japanese vessel Gessan Maru is sunk by patrolling USAAF aircraft

Singapore...
RN midget submarines XE-1 and XE-3 penetrate into Singapore harbor and set charges on IJN warships

Today's Air Raids...
Japan on multiple military targets by US FEAF
Japan on naval targets by USN aircraft - an escort vessel, a minelayer, a sub-chaser, two guardboats, four sub-chasers and eight cargo ships are sunk
China on transportation lines, river traffic, troop positions, and other targets throughout southern and eastern China by US 14th Air Force
Indochina on military targets by US 14th Air Force

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
A massive drop in my Twitter followers appears to be due to a purge of spammer accounts by Twitter - I didn't find any genuine unfollowers, so it wasn't something I said!

Of course I AM capable of saying things that people don't like, but my intention is what I do say has insightful truth within it. For example, I appear to be a minority view at being completely at peace with the darkness and light within myself. I have no problem with being a meat-eating predator, and would without hesitation kill people if I considered them a threat and there were minimal consequences. On the other hand I am capable of compassion and empathy, healing and educating/enlightening.

To me as a single point of the universe, this makes me simply a consistent part of it - the universe itself is darkness and light, creating and destroying. I see this polarity everywhere, particularly with my cats, capable of savage cruelty without pity and also playful tender affection. Looking deeper beyond all the human ideas and concepts, there is simply vibration, a wave with positive and negative peaks.

I do not find this depressing but rather fascinating, and grateful to have been one of the few to grasp how it really is, to have been able to see beyond the "smoke and mirrors" and been truly aware. It's a joy to participate in it and send out the seeds of awareness out into cyberspace, where it will take root in a few other open minds, and will grow in every generation.

8. TRIVIA
Enrico Caruso (1873-1921), arguably the greatest opera singer of all time, was the 18th of 21 children, only three of whom lived beyond infancy. As a boy, he worked in a machine shop to help his family and sang on street corners to make money. He was the first opera singer to perform without dynamic modulation, which is to sing almost exclusively forte (loud).

9. ZEN WISDOM
Encouragement means to plant the seed of courage in the lives of others. It is an act of regeneration.
