Intervening personally in the deadlock in his government, Emperor Hirohito summons senior Japanese officers to his palace and orders them to accept surrender without further delay or conditions. He then convenes the Cabinet and senior officials and orders them likewise. The Japanese Cabinet formally votes to accept surrender to the Allies and approves the wording of Hirohito's 'Imperial Rescript Ending the War', which the emperor duly signs, and records it onto disc as a speech.

The Japanese government notifies Allied governments that it accepts the Potsdam Declaration and the US letter of 11 August regarding surrender and end of the war. Senior Army leaders sign a declaration: The Army will act in accordance with the Imperial Decision to the last

Junior Army officers, possibly with the collusion of some senior officers, forge orders to the Imperial Guards Division, which occupies the imperial palace overnight and the mutinous junior officers attempt to find and destroy the emperor's sound recording scheduled for broadcast in the morning. The recording is not found, and General Tanaka regains control of the Imperial Guards Division. The junior officers leading the coup commit suicide.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
One of the cornerstones of Enlightenment is the recognition of impermanence - the very ground beneath your feel is constantly moving, and nothing, not even the universe itself, is immortal. As I have fully embraced this fact, my attitude has changed accordingly. You are no longer a "player" but a curious observer. This does not make you ineffectual, because you can change your experience simply by what you focus on.

However, there is no guarantee that this heightened awareness will continue to grow. Trauma or dementia may snuff it out, and ultimately this particular node of consciousness will cease anyway. This makes its temporary purpose very clear - to pass on what I have learned - to put it out there for others to take up.

Were it to end today, it would still have been an immense joy to have had the experience of awakening, to have loved and been loved, had sex, laughed seen beautiful places and things, felt peace of mind, and he truly awesome experience of feeling the consciousness of the universe itself. Even the gratitude that results has been a wonderful thing to experience in itself.

I will continue to enjoy every moment that I am aware. If I can eventually achieve perpetual intuitive consciousness, that will be a wonderful cherry atop the cake.

8. TRIVIA
Camels do not store water in their humps. When they need to, they keep most of the water in their bodies from turning into urine. Consequently, camel urine is twice as salty as seawater. When they do urinate, they urinate all over their legs, which helps them keep cool. As soon as they find water, they drink up to 25 gallons within 10 minutes.

9. ZEN WISDOM
It is not about how others are. The most important thing is to ask yourself, “What shall I do now?”
