3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I frequently tell clients that mental scars from trauma can't be "healed", only well-managed so they don't bring your life to a halt. This teaching, in addition to every other I offer, comes from first-hand experience, tried-and-tested on myself first, so I know that it works.

I also warn them that they can become robust but not invincible - even the Dalai Lama can be broken if pushed hard enough. Sometimes a collection of the wrong circumstances in a day can get on top of you. There therefore has to be some self-kindness, permission to be vulnerable.

I certainly think that coming from a dysfunctional family, being a social outcast as a child, going into the world with no social skills whatsoever, being on the receiving end of corporate callousness, seeing my wife turn psychotic then my relationship with my daughter dissolve into acrimony, I shouldn't be surprised if it all gets a bit much occasionally.

Fortunately, through my own researches, I have developed coping strategies that I can pass on to others, and even to the interested few show the way to Enlightenment. Calming the mind, particularly through meditation is the most important way to liberate your consciousness from your character, and this makes your character experience go better as well.
