1. ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY
22nd January 1521
Holy Roman Emperor Charles V opens the Diet of Worms
The Diet of Worms 1521 was an imperial diet of the Holy Roman Empire held at the Heylshof Garden in Worms, then an Imperial Free City of the Empire. An imperial diet was a formal deliberative assembly of the whole Empire. This one is most memorable for the Edict of Worms, which addressed Martin Luther and the effects of the Protestant Reformation. It was conducted from 28 January to 25 May 1521, with the Emperor Charles V presiding. Other imperial diets took place at Worms in the years 829, 926, 1076, 1122, 1495, and 1545, but unless plainly qualified, the term "Diet of Worms" usually refers to the assembly of 1521.
The diet was summoned because the writings of Martin Luther had called into question the spiritual authority of the Pope, the Roman Catholic church, various doctrines of the church and the relationship between spiritual and political authority. These ideas had gained particular popularity with the princes of northern Europe, who had seen much of their potential revenue end up in Rome and southern Europe.
The purpose of the Diet had been to reunify the political and spiritual doctrines of church and state across the whole empire, but ultimately, after five months of debate, which Luther himself attended under promise of safe passage, it proved impossible to reconcile the divergent beliefs and personal agendas of clergy and princes across the empire. The result was to be the loss of northern Europe to Protestant faiths and a permanently divided Holy Roman Empire nominally united under the emperor.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
The closest most people will ever get to it is the feeling immediately after a very intense orgasm. Peace of mind is however BETTER than an orgasm, or any other feeling for that matter - it is the absolute BEST, and I'm profoundly grateful to have experienced it. Even better, in a quiet place, I can SUMMON it at will!
It's easier to describe what it ISN'T rather than what it is. It is a feeling of relief, the absolute absence of distress and suffering. It is to be in Shangri-La without having to go anywhere. I manifests itself as a HUM. I can even ascribe a value to it - 150 Hz, though I feel/imagine it rather than physically hear it. Playing around with a binaural beat generator, adding a binaural beat of 0.82Hz (close to emulating a heartbeat of 1.33Hz) makes, hits the spot.
I doubt that it would be ideal to be in this state all round the clock - I think the exhilaration that comes from the occasional surge of adrenalin is also important to wellbeing. It doesn't really matter, as whenever I want it, I can internally generate it.

8. TRIVIA
The earth's crust is less dense rock floating on a hot gelatinous syrupy molten rock underneath (the mantle), that is continually rising to the surface then slipping back into the mantle again due to convection currents. This is all powered by nuclear fission of radioactive elements in the Earth's core.
9. ZEN WISDOM
Failure is an instrumental part of every success. Whether our life has been a triumph or tragedy can only be judged at its very end.
