3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
What could have been a great treat last night (seeing Milton Jones) was somewhat tarnished by the surrounding circumstances - frustration and expense over getting there and back to the gig and Son's attitude over not being invited. The gig itself was great but the logistical hassle and surrounding concerns about money meant it felt more like an obligation than a pleasure.

This is sad because Daughter's aims in buying the tickets were so well-intentioned and financially sacrificial. Unfortunately the joy it was intended to bestow was considerably undermined by her needing to subsequently ask me to bail her out to the tune of nearly twice the the ticket cost so she could fix her laptop, and the jealousy and resentment stirred up in Son.

The important life-lesson I have learned, and that daughter has yet to learn, is that you can't strengthen relationships by throwing money at them. You do so by simple words and acts of kindness and being there for the other one. I don't want her to spend lots of money on us, I want her to show consideration for other people's feelings and be a team-player.

Unfortunately, when someone is so self-absorbed and so completely concerned about how they themselves are feeling, you can't communicate guidance to them directly. It is like someone with no outer skin - you want to reach out to them but they just hurt when you do.

My training tells me that the best action from this point is to let go of that I cannot change and move on - return to the focus on making the difference I can make in the moment.

9. THE WISDOM I'VE LEARNED FROM OTHERS
"All you need is deep within you waiting to unfold and reveal itself. All you have to do is be still and take time to seek for what is within, and you will surely find it." - Eileen Caddy
