3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
One week on since we discovered the small garden gates stolen, and with the big gate still there, there's a feeling of closure on the matter.

Though I manage it, it doesn't take much to piss me off. The evening break at the Weekend job delayed by 45 minutes for operational reasons was enough to unsettle me, and combined with a hurried end to the shift, my emotions are still grumbling. There is no logic at all to this of course. No harm was done and I got home normal time, but the mechanisms which drive the mind are not logical.

I cannot prevent my buttons being pushed and feelings being ignited, but through years of practice and training, I can launch "counter-programs" that prevent my dark emotions possessing me. This works by a developed power of concentration, reciting affirmations and mantras that put my attention on the moment and the role I wish to play. I consequently no longer inflict my Dark Side on the innocent.

Necessity, it turns out, is not only the mother of invention, but also knowledge, intellectual growth, wisdom and enlightenment. When you need to learn things in order to survive, you learn well!

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are you honest with yourself about the darkness within yourself?

8. TRIVIA
The appendix has no function in modern humans. In herbivorous mammals, its' purpose is to digest cellulose, but the richer omnivorous human diet does not need the energy from this source. Evolution works by the "use it or lose it" principle - organs that are not needed for survival become useless over generations, as individuals diverting resources elsewhere have a competetive edge. For the same reason, species that live successfully in darkness over many generations become blind as their eyes no longer work.

9. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
"Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble, or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your heart." - Marcel Morin
