3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I'm getting a clearer idea of what the various roles of the different parts of my being are.
My consciousness (ego) has the important role of observing carefully - focusing! Without "locking on" to the immediate, my actions are noticeably less effective. There is however not one focal point but TWO. As well as the external focus on the immediate, there is an internal focus on the desired emotion, which is peace of mind.
Beyond that focused on is peripheral awareness, which again has internal and external dimensions. Unless something in this zone flags up imminent danger, this region is the domain of the Higher Self to deal with automatically beyond the participation of my consciousness.
Thirdly there is the intuition, which I rely on when decisions are required.
Finally there is my reason, a tool my consciousness can apply to process available data to calculate conclusions.
This demarcation is the "ideal scenario" and in the benign environment of home, I am learning to successfully employ it. In the hostile world beyond, distractions can trigger emotions that disrupt this harmony! I am some distance from being immune to distraction, but after being distracted, I do at least have an established stability to return to.
Over time, as my ability to focus gets stronger, resistance to distraction and the ability to effortlessly switch the focus in sudden changes of circumstance will get stronger.
