3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
My training does not remove the less helpful aspects of this character, but what it does do is enable more efficient management. When a negative behaviour is triggered I can, given space, quickly recognise what's going on, calm it down and restore self-control.

A more curious condition I deal with is "semi-insomnia" - I can't sleep for HALF the night. Usually it's the second half, but for a change last night it was the first. I know better than to get frustrated over it - I simply get up and make good use of the time. I find that the body clock then re-sets itself the next night. Alcohol is particularly disruptive to the body clock, so it's a good thing "sessions" are rare!

The greatest weakness of this character is the reaction to minor failure. I am fine with a big fuck-up that's entirely my fault, or someone else's fault, but what can trigger virtually psychotic behaviour is to to be pulled-up for a lesser failure that is partly due to others contributing to it, or when those criticizing me don't have all the information.

I assume that I was traumatized by such situations as a young child, but there is I am also sure an inherent element - Daughter has the same trait but to a highly extreme degree. Unlike myself she has shown no capacity to reflect inwardly and see that it is the reaction to disapproval and frustration, not the disapproval or frustration itself that is the real issue.

Though I cannot cure this issue, I can at least control it so long as I have the time and space to do so. It helps a lot to have come to self-acceptance over it. I did not after all want it - I was dealt it! I can only respond to it in the best way I can with what is available to me.
