3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Now more than ever I am convinced that your experience of life boils down to what you focus on - whatever has your attention has you! Fundamental to putting your attention on healthier places is the ability to turn your thoughts off. One of my most important self-discoveries was that I was not my thoughts - thoughts are things that happen to you.

Realizing this liberated me from a lot of guilt and self-doubt, calmed my emotions and allowed me to learn more. The real "you" is the "observer", the one that is aware. The "doer" is simply an inevitable reaction to how your mind interprets the information it receives.

Turning your thoughts off and separating your awareness from them allows you to become "super-conscious" - you begin to look beyond your feelings and into the nuts and bolts of everything. This in turn modifies your intentions, which results in changes of behaviour and and outcomes.

Once you realize and accept that the real you is the Observer rather than the Doer, you are liberated from the guilt-driven urge to keep doing stuff, and you can then be still and really see what's going on. Your doing then becomes much more productive. To start truly observing only happened in my life because the Doer was getting nowhere.
