3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Synchronicity seems to bring to my attention those folks who have a problem admitting things and saying sorry. I am both infuriated with them and sorry for them at the same time. They are infurating in that they cause unnecessary suffering to themselves and others. Confession is the emotional equivalent of draining an abcess. All the toxins being brought to the surface is unpleasant to do but then everybody can heal and move on.

I feel sorry for them because they are making their own lives worse. When you encounter the unrepentant, it's relatively easy to put them at a distance, but the person concerned has to carry around all the resentment of blaming everyone but themselves, and endure the loneliness that comes from driving others away. Underlying it all is the crippling fear of being wrong, and all the nagging self-doubt that results, making them ill in mind and body.

Nowhere are Son and Daughter more diverse than in the discipline of confession. Son, like Missus and myself, does it instinctively, allowing situations to be nipped in the bud. Daughter, like both mine and Missus mothers and sisters, have caused decades of needless suffering by their desperate need to be right.

I have learned not to bear the burdens of those who inflict self and mutual harm. I simply let them go and deny them access to my life. If necessary I will robustly and aggressively defend my borders from encroachment by such people. It's their problem and I will not take ownership of it. I will instead devote my attention to those open to change and the gifts I have to offer.

9. THE WISDOM I'VE LEARNED FROM OTHERS
"A man should not act as a judge either for someone he loves or for someone he hates. For no man can see the guilt of someone he loves or the good qualities in someone he hates." - Babylonian Talmud, tractate Ketubbot
