1. THIS DAY IN WORLD WAR 2 (15th July 1943)
On the Russian Front...
Battle of Kursk:
German 4th Panzer Army, having abandoned the Kursk offensive, retreats to its start line. - The Kursk offensive was in reality doomed before it started. British Intelligence had broken the Germans' highest security codes and supplied the Soviets with the entire German order of battle. The Soviets exploited the opportunity to wear down German armour and so ensure the success of their own offensive on the Orel Salient.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Another day in the "bubble of bliss" that is home life. I intend to make best use of it to make a difference - to myself, others and the environment. That's all! It's not that my life has reached "happily ever after" point, for no life actually does, but rather that I know who and what I am on every level, and what I want to do. My life at this point is free of suffering and confusion, enabling me to fully experience it to the full. Of course it is the very fact that I have experienced suffering and confusion aplenty that makes me fully appreciative.

I don't forget either that I am vulnerable. No matter how robust I may become, I can still be broken by adversity. Since what happens to me is not wholly under my control, I will "make hay while the sun shines" and make the most difference I can with what I have now.
