3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I would love to be able to just shrug my shoulders and accept the breakdown with my relationship with Daughter then simply move on, but that's not possible in my case as we share her mother. This inevitably means that the mud of the past often gets stirred up into my present-day experience. Missus, bless her, is very even-handed, but deeply-narcissistic Daughter cannot see past her own hatred and anger and consequently her distorted one-sided view of me.

Furthermore, like it or not, I get continually reminded of it through unasked-for feedback from Missus. There's always trouble between them if I come up in conversation, so I inevitably get the gist of the conversation. My dreams last night were troubled and my emotions first thing this morning were melancholy.

At such time my training kicks in. Negative emotions are a cue that my focus is in the wrong place. The first response is acceptance - there is nothing I can do about the past or Daughter's view of it. There is also no possibility of reviving a relationship that is dead. My attention therefore needs to be on the relationships that ARE working, and the difference I CAN make.

Of course, the situation with Daughter will inevitably continue to rear its head and sometimes get to me. When it does, I will simply repeat this process: pause, accept, let go and refocus.
