3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
After a decade or so of practice, I can, in a calm environment easily move my consciousness between the "Player", the True Self that we are, to the "Character", the one that people see and know as Gary Blonder. So far my consciousness has never fully withdrawn from the Character to the Player, which is the objective of spirituality - to become one with the "Divine".

There has been an inner resistance to doing so. Experience as the character is intense - highs and lows are intensely felt. Of course this will inevitably involve loss and suffering, as well as thrills. When you shift consciousness into "The Witness", detachment occurs. Your experience ceases to be a "game" and becomes instead a movie. Everything happens automatically by itself.

After experiencing intense suffering, the choice of being The Player is a no-brainer, as you experience anaesthesia - suffering ends. However, once the suffering ends, you see the possibilities and opportunities for The Character, and you want to immerse yourself in the joy. But you cannot have it all ways. If you opt for detachment, you will detach not only from suffering but also from ecstasy.

With this life experience somewhat low on ecstasy until recently, I have been reluctant to let go of it. Amidst the ecstasy, you therefore get suffering, which though absent externally continues to have an impact through scarred memory.

Now I have experienced at least some ecstasy, I am finally ready for full detachment. Inevitably this experience will draw to a close anyway, and is already at best into the second half. Everything about the Character will have to be given up sooner or later anyway. I now have all the Character experience necessary and do not require any more to feel fulfilled.

I am at the point of having to overcome the last puff of resistance. It is like being thoroughly involved in a video game and consciously deciding to stop playing. It also feels like the last opportunity to decline a general anaesthetic.

I am however nevertheless ready. Any further intense experience would be only a repeat. It's time to put the console down. It's time to relax and count backwards from 100...

8. TRIVIA
Oriental carpets are usually rich with symbolism. For example, large Persian carpets often present a small-scale plan of a part of the universe: Heaven above, with Earth below. Carpets also featured an “X,” or an eight-petaled flower, which represents the Four Directions (and, by extension, the World itself). Other symbols include a sky door leading to Heaven and combs, which served as a remainder that Allah demands high standards of cleanliness.

9. ZEN WISDOM
It is natural for human beings to look forward. Our eyes naturally look ahead. In this sense, we are made for moving toward a goal.
