3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
With circumstances continuing to be benign, my self-development into Higher Awareness continues. There continues to be some inner resistance, but with clear reasons to persevere, I simply put the go to sleep - it likes being put to sleep anyway! Paradoxically, when my ego sleeps, I am truly conscious.

When I'm not in "listening mode", I realize that I'm not truly conscious, and I'm effectively dreaming. As I'm getting stronger and better in calm circumstances, I intend to expend this awareness into dialogue and interaction situations, where I haven't really got going yet.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
When you're lost in memory or thought, are you really awake?

8. TRIVIA
In Mayan civilization, cacao beans were the currency, and counterfeiting cacao beans out of painted clay had become a thriving industry. Goods could be priced in units of cacao: a slave cost 100 beans, the services of a prostitute cost 10 beans, and a turkey cost 20 beans. While the Spanish conquistadors horded gold, the Mesoamericans horded cacao beans. In some parts of Latin America, the beans were used as a currency as late as the 19th century.

9. ZEN WISDOM
To the extent that we contemplate ourselves and elevate our state of life, we can deepen our understanding of others. Someone who does so is capable of recognizing and treasuring people’s individuality. A person of wisdom tries to invigorate others and bring out the best in them.
