3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
The continual malign looming presence of Daughter strikes again - this weekend she is press-ganging her mother into going swimming - despite the fact that her mother would otherwise not be seen dead in a pool, but of course Daughter doesn't give the remotest flying fuck about anyone else's preferences, feelings or vulnerabilities.
However this blatant act of manipulation is not serious enough to warrant an intervention. Missus will experience discomfort rather than distress and is a willing participant in being manipulated. As previously stated, Daughter is a parasite that cannot be removed without severely hurting her host mother, so the milder "symptoms" of her parasitism have to be tolerated.
Aside from this dark cloud on the periphery of my life experience, life is pleasantly fulfilling, and with many things not just Daughter, watchfulness is an important requirement in keeping it that way. Happiness, I have learned, is not the absence of challenges. On the contrary, if there is no challenge to battle, life loses meaning - there must always be one goal left.
I therefore embrace challenges in a way I would not have imagined doing as a young man, and I choose for this character to consciously participate in the story of the universe.
