THE BATTLE OF VIENNA
A combined Polish, Austrian and German army led by John III Sobieski decisively defeats a Turkish army besieging Vienna. Consequently the siege is lifted, and the Turks, suffering heavy losses, are seriously weakened. It marks the end of Turkish expansion and the beginning of a long decline and retreat of the Ottoman Empire.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION

After a day off being distracted by other interests, I am back "on the ball" and need to refocus on my Practice. Though not to a massive extent I'm conscious of "letting myself go" somewhat of late, and I think I've finally snapped out of it. The terminal ankle-blisters have healed enough to walk again with some supportive padding, and it was good to be back out hoofing it to the Weekend Job yesterday.

As well as anxiety and distress, pleasant distractions, passions and obsessions can equally unsettle the mind from a calm footing. I can't say I regretted it, but I am conscious of the fact that distractions however pleasant cannot continue indefinitely without negative consequences. I appear to be back with it and feel the urge to get moving again, making my difference my way. I am also returning to the more wholesome bliss of a still mind.
