3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I count Christmas Day a success from my own viewpoint, but all was not happiness and light - Son's seething resentment against Daughter threatened to explode and I was quite chuffed with myself in defusing it. A prolonged chat into the small hours ensued, that ended up on a deep discussion about the nature of the Self, which both challenged his perception of reality and strengthened the bonds between us.

Today will continue to be a day of being the watchful "lubricant" between the conflicting agendas of the other three, but there will be plenty of me time to enjoy.

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are you clear in your own mind about what you really want?

8. TRIVIA
There is no scientific agreement on the purpose of dreams. The three leading theories are:
1. To fix experiences into long-term memory
2. To dump trivial experiences from the brain.
3. It serves no purpose at all - it is simply a by-product of sleep.

There is not even any clear agreement on the purpose of sleep, although it is now accepted as an essential function. From observations of those deprived of sleep, the two most likely purposes are:
1. Maintenance and repair of the body's structure and systems.
2. Maintenance of brain function.
Like a machine or computer, many elements cannot be maintained and repired while they are being used, so mind and body has to partially "shut down" to enable this to happen.
