3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Daughter duly arrived on schedule on Christmas Eve - and Son and Daughter pissed each other off straight away in the first five minutes. Further unpleasantness was eliminated by the simple expedient of splitting them up. Daughter has been given the Lounge as a temporary bedsit, and is mainly kept company by missus, while Son retreated upstairs and hung with me or his online buddies. This arrangement has proved a great success thus far.

Christmas is the one time I indulge in peanuts and Chilli Doritos - I would be the size of a house if I did this all year - and enjoy them tremendously, along with microwaved Yule Log and ice-cream. Yummy! Oh and extra beer of course.

I don't whether it's the extra calories or the delicious marathon 2-hour meditations I have enjoyed in the last 2 days, or both, but two notable effects have been very early waking (4am this morning) and an upsurge in libido without chemical assistance (missus was delighted, and suitably seen to yesterday morning). This has puffed up my male ego and given me bags of time to myself, as I am not called into action (making Yule breakfast) until 9am.

Though life and the family at Christmas are reassuringly not perfect, it's still pretty damn good - I am bursting with gratitude most of the time. Plenty of creature comforts and time to enjoy them! Missus is happy as Larry at Christmas. The children have all the angst of older teenagers, but by teenage standards are doing OK, with some gentle parental encouragement. They are both highly talented individuals, and I'm intensely proud of both of them.
