Soviet 40th Army opens an attack against the German 2nd Army
Soviet 6th Army captures Starobelsk
The Soviet North Caucasus Front formed under command of General Maslennikov.
Soviet Don Front continues to reduce the German 6th Army in the Stalingrad pocket, now completely beyond rescue or resupply. Hitler orders Paulus and the 6th Army to fight to the last man and the last bullet.

In the North Sea...
Royal Navy destroyers and German S-Boats skirmish overnight off Lowestoft.
Germans lay mines in the Skagerrak strait.

In Tunisia...
US 1st Armored Division raids Sened Station then withdraws to Gafsa.

In Morocco...
Day 11 - final day of the Casablanca conference between Roosevelt and Churchill. Roosevelt announces the policy of unconditional surrender for Axis nations. It is decided to liberate Tunisia then invade Sicily in the Summer, to continue strategic bombing of Germany and occupied Europe, for Pacific forces to liberate specific islands in the path to the Philippines, and to undertake amphibious operations in China-Burma-India theatre.

US forces gain ground and push toward the Poha River on Guadalcanal.

My cough and missus' Gastroenteritis continues to steadily heal. Prolonged and thoroughly enjoyable meditations over the last two days have helped set my mind in the right place for the relatively busy Thurs-Sat segment of the week. I will be focused on the short-term objectives, and start thinking long-term again from Sunday.
