In Eastern Ukraine, Soviet 1st Guards Army attack around Krasny Liman
In Stalingrad, German General Seydlitz-Kurzbach is captured.
In the Kuban, the Soviet 9th Army captures Tikhoretsk
In the Kuban, Soviet cruiser Voroshilov and three destroyers bombard German positions around Novorossisk.
Soviet Trans-Caucasus Front captures Maikop and recovers the Maikop oilfields.

In Germany...
There are national celebrations to mark the 10th anniversary of the Nazi Party gaining power. Aware of this, RAF Bomber Command sends two flights, each of three Mosquito fighter-bombers, on daylight raids to Berlin to disrupt anniversary speeches and rallies.
Karl Doenitz is promoted to Grand Admiral and takes command of Kriegsmarine.

In Turkey...
Churchill and Field Marshal Sir Alan Brooke meet Turkish leaders, in an unsuccessful attempt to recruit Turkey into the war on the Allied side.

In the Mediterranean...

The Battle is a Japanese victory, with US Task Force 18 forced to withdraw from the area. This will allow the Japanese evacuation of Guadalcanal to proceed unimpeded.

2. TODAY IN MY LIFE
Blogging, client prep, and the rest of the morning intuitively. Long meditation in the afternoon. The evening a mixture of me time and missus time.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
With missus deciding to have a marathon sleep (1930 last night to 1100 today)
and no pressing tasks, I have an abundance of me time. I will use this time intuitively, but a lot of it will be frankly spent indulging myself. I have long since abandoned the "work ethic" in favour of "take every opportunity to enjoy life".

Paradoxically I slept less last night, around just 5 hours, absorbed last night in a YouTube documentary and waking early with a "wee boner". Wee boners are erections caused by the need to urinate rather than sexual desire. Having urinated around 5am, the prospect of abundant free time was too tempting to go to bed. However, I will enjoy a long deep meditation in the afternoon, which partly compensates for lack of sleep.

Meditations are not spiritual experiences for me - they are more like getting stoned on your own body's endorphins - Buddhists would be appalled! I remember very little from a long deep meditation, other than it felt blissful. However the benefits in a calm enlightened mind when conscious are huge.
I average 90 minutes per session, and will eventually stretch this to 2 hours per session. I have learned that being still is not doing nothing, but is incredibly good for you and consequently the people you interact with.

After one of the longest "dry spells" I can remember I finally ended over a week without ejaculating. With Gastroenteritis killing missus libido stone dead, and my own libido no longer self-propelling, I enjoyed not needing to be furtive. Indeed, I could have happily gone on indefinitely until missus libido recovered. The reason I haven't is because my research suggests this is bad for me. A daily orgasm for both men and woman has many health benefits, and a very important one for men is a reduced risk of Prostate Cancer. A general rule for good health is to "keep everything moving" and so I shall!

4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are you enduring or enjoying life?

5. TODAY'S WEATHER IN BRADFORD
Blustery showers in the morning.
A window of dry weather is expected between late morning and early afternoon.
Blustery showers then return but will peter-out early evening.
It will then be dry and mainly clear.
More showers  arrive from 3am tomorrow.
Wind will be consistently strong and south-westerly.
Max Temp = 7 degC
Min Temp = 4 degC
Sunrise at 07:57
Sunset at 16:44

6. TODAY'S ONELINER
I dream of a better tomorrow, where chickens can cross the road and not be questioned about their motives   : D

8. TRIVIA
There are three different ways a suicide or execution by hanging can kill you. If the drop is short, you will die by strangulation. If the drop is just right, your neck will snap and you will die instantly. If the drop is too long, your head will shear off and you will die by decapitation. Skilled executioners calculate the height of drop required to ensure the neck snaps, so death is both instant and non-messy.
