3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Insufficient meditation (due to an untypical week) has been showing itself in a struggle to focus. On the plus side however, my mood has been very settled and I'm delighted with my progress!
I now fully appreciate that if I want to keep my mind in a healthy place, both meditation and the right techniques are essential! Today my focus is very much on focus itself, and keeping it on my goals and intentions rather circumstances past and present. A calmer mood is definitely helping and worth the sacrifice of sugar, which I am increasingly convinced is the cause of a lifetime of intense mood swings.
4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
How well do you understand yourself?

8. TRIVIA
Birth order can influence whether a marriage succeeds or fails. Statistically, the most
successful marriages are those where the oldest sister of brothers
marries the youngest brother of sisters. Two firstborns, however,
tend to be more aggressive and can create higher levels of tension.
The highest divorce rates are when an only child marries another only
child.
9. ZEN WISDOM
The fortitude to fight on through to the very end—this strength is not
only the basis of happiness, it is also the force by which social wrongs
can be righted.
A mix of nine quickie statements covering history, humour, trivia, spirituality and wisdom, delivered fresh every day most days.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
The predicted smooth week wasn't as smooth as predicted! On the other hand my reactions were cool and collected, and that is an important objective achieved - to focus not on what the circumstances are but on my reactions to them. My ultimate aim is to experience the calm I'm feeling now regardless of circumstances by having focus in the right place.

8. TRIVIA
Venice introduced the gold ducat in 1284 and it became the most popular gold coin in the world for the next 500 years. Ducat is Latin for “duke.” It is the currency used in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet and is referenced in The Merchant of Venice. In his song “I Ain’t the One,” rapper Ice Cube sings that “he’s getting juiced for his ducats.” The ducat is also used in the “Babylon 5” sci-fi series as the name of the Centauri race’s money.
9. ZEN WISDOM
A person who cannot genuinely empathize with others can never excel as a leader. So much of what ails society today is the result of too many people in leadership positions who do not or cannot identify with the plight of their fellow men and women.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
I'm reasonably pleased with my reaction to minor frustrations. Bradford, gridlocked by a few inches of snow, disrupted our evening routine then I've had issues with Blogger AND JustUnfollow. I've just unfollowed JustUnfollow and replaced it with unfollowers.com, but the Blogger issue is due to repetitive copying-over, which buggers up the HTML over time, so it means that every now and again I have to set up this blog from scratch.
The weather/traffic may also bugger up my client appointments today! In all this I have successfully focused on my responses rather than the circumstances - progress!
4. TODAY'S QUESTION FOR YOU
Are you responding to adversity in the way that you would like?
5. TODAY'S WEATHER IN BRADFORD
Snow showers will finally peter out in the evening but will briefly return for a few hours overnight
A moderate westerly or north westerly will blow throughout
Max Temp = 1 degC at midday

8. TRIVIA
When a family cat died in ancient Egypt, family members would mourn by shaving off their eyebrows. They also held elaborate funerals during which they drank wine and beat their breasts. The cat was embalmed with a sculpted wooden mask and the tiny mummy was placed in the family tomb or in a pet cemetery with tiny mummies of mice.
9. ZEN WISDOM
Dig beneath your feet, there you will find a spring. The place where you are now is crucial. Never try to avoid that which you must do.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
Making a few simple changes will hopefully mean that I will be somewhat more time-efficient from this point! I am at a point in life where time seems to pass at breakneck speed. I know better than to struggle and fret about this fact. I need to do the opposite and relax.
Now more than ever it is critically important for me to calm my mind and minimize unnecessary thought. As my body declines and all processes slow down, this means that everything relative to my mind speeds up. Consciousness itself however is outside of time so I can still savour the life experience if I am not fogged up with excess internal distraction.
The absence of excess sugar from my diet has certainly stabilized mood, which is essential if I am to clear my mind. If I do not want the final third of this life experience to pass by in a high-speed blur, a still mind is essential.
With mind and body growing increasingly fragile from this point, it is now very important to look after them, giving them both adequate rest and workouts to make the most difference with them.

3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
My schedule has been difficult to keep to of late due Tivo and Tumblr! I don't want to ditch either of these but perhaps first thing in the morning is not the best time to indulge them. A reshuffle is needed where I do some advance blogging and/or Tumblr later in the day, freeing up more time in the morning.

8. TRIVIA
Gay teens are three times more likely than heterosexual teens to report having been bullied. In contrast, gay teens were about 80% less likely than heterosexuals to say they had bullied someone else.
9. ZEN WISDOM
When we care for others our own strength to live increases. When we help people expand their state of life, our lives also expand. Actions to benefit others are not separate from actions to benefit oneself. Our lives and the lives of others are ultimately inseparable.
