3. TODAY'S SELF-OBSERVATION
My second day of clandestine fasting went well, though I noticed that my mood swung considerably. Since my mood also swings when I'm eating, there must be another reason, possibly dehydration and fatigue. My mood swung upwards following a drink and a break.

Having such an unstable temperament is paradoxically a strength, because it forces me to be mindful. I have to do things and focus on things in order to keep mentally healthy, and what I've learned is invaluable working with clients.

Though I haven't tied down the causes of mood swings, I've learned enough to keep functional, and I also know beyond doubt how to lose weight and keep it off once I have - this will be third and last time I will need to get back to a healthy weight. Tomorrow I "go public" and turn it into a publicity exercise!

9. ZEN WISDOM
Happiness does not exist as an isolated quality, nor does it conform to a single fixed pattern. Happiness is something that breathes and lives in the relationships between one person and another.
